Default ID This Cotton-like Seed from a large tree

I saw this tree in Santa Barbara CA.
It was spewing seeds with cotton-like bolls attached.
The tree was quite large... about 30 feet tall.
I figured it must be a Cottonwood tree, but the leaves did not look
anything like the leaves of cottonwood trees on Google images.
What could it be? ..............Bob Williams

Thanks Bob,
You really nailed that one.
Kapok is exactly what it is.
One of the images on wikipedia even showed the pods that held the fiber.
There were plenty of those on the ground near the tree.
And the leaves look just like the ones in Wikipedia
