Thanks, it is part of our gardening history, one that is often overlooked,
indeed it is only recently that Latour-Marliac has been recognised as the
inspiration for his friend Monet.
I believe the pots were used in the breeding of new plants, growing of
seedlings etc in the 1800s. If you look at the old 19th century photos of
the nursery when it was actively breeding new plants you will see hundreds
of those pots strewn around everywhere.
