Don't sweat it, we're all radioactive. If you live a wood-frame house,
you are usually the most radioactive object in it. A glass of
single-malt whiskey will often register a little higher. The brick walls
of a masonry house will register around the same as you, sometimes more. (1)

The makezine blog (google it) has how-tos for making your own Geiger
counter:
http://blog.makezine.com/2012/01/16/...eiger-counter/
http://blog.makezine.com/2012/04/03/...eiger-counter/

(1) Interesting tid-bit: Isaac Asimov calculated that for humans in deep
hibernation, the absolute maximum extent of interstellar travel at light
speed is 20,000 light years. In 20,000 years the decaying K-40
(radioactive potassium) inside you will have have damaged your DNA so
much that you won't survive when you wake up.

Best,
Wolf K.

Better cancel my trip, then.
