Weed of the week: Green alkanet [1/1]
1 Attachment(s)
This week I've been helping my friend T to dig some weeds out of her
rather overgrown garden. Green alkanet was introduced to Britain in the Middle Ages for the red dye that was made from the roots; its name comes from the Arabic for henna. It has beautiful blue flowers so you may be tempted to let it grow - don't. If you have this stuff in your garden get rid of it at once!
