Default firelilies

flowering now. It is a horticultural breed. They grow little bulbs only where the stem is in the ground. The wild ones bear bulbs at the base of each leaf. These are very rare and protected by law. I knew a few places where they grew when I was younger, but they all have dissapeared.

That sure jogged memories. When I was a kid living in Passaic NJ there
was a "secret" place on the hill where the general hospital was
located that was thick with lilies very similar to these--they were a
somewhat ligher orange as I recall. I don't think they were cultivated
because it was such a secluded spot but maybe they had been orignally
and later escaped into the wild.
