Default musty smell/Corn Palm house plant/dracaena massangeana

the smell comes from the center of the leaf growth, the soil has no damp smell and is not over watered. Anybody can let me know why, is this common?

Actually the plant is correctly named Dracaena fragrans 'Massangeana'.

The bad smell is most common when people use the pot as a trash can or an
ash tray. The soil has been contaminated in some way.

Or else your plant has taken on rot from the soil being contaminated.
