That's Gladiolus. Generic names are proper names and are spelled the same
whether you are talking about one or a hundred.

Plant them with other summer blooming plants. Use your imagination.

thank you for the clarification...is it OK to plant a ground cover or
some other low growing plant over the bulbs so when the gladiolus die
back the area is not bare? just want to make sure the plants are not
competing with each other.

Didn't say to plant gladiolus with ground cover. It would create a problem
when you dig up the corms in the autumn. Its okay to plant annuals and
perennials around where you put the gladiolus corms not directly over them.

It's not necessary to dig the corms in zone 6 if they're planted 5" - 6"
deep. They only needed to be dug in the fall after they freeze down when
it's necessary to divide them. Then they can be immediately replanted. If
dug and replanted, it helps to mulch.

This is a good point. I plant my glads in a bed with peony tulips and
sometimes sunflowers. Makes quite a stunning display. I do have to dig
them up in the fall though as I'm only in zone 3 at best. Most times, over
wintering works but not always.
