Mad, you're late! I've had daffodils in bloom for over a week here in
Nashville. They beat the crocuses.

I've got my first backache today - tilled under the winter rye and
turnip greens in one of the gardens so I can plant onions and carrots
tomorrow.

Kate - it's beginning to look a lot like Spring time

Mad, you're late! I've had daffodils in bloom for over a week here in
Nashville. They beat the crocuses.

sigh.............Nashville. Spring in Inglewood on Greenfield Avenue, where
just down the street at the corner of Golf and Riverside Drive a house has
some golden crocus planted alongside both sides of the front sidewalk that
always bloomed every year the second week of February. Always. As far back
as I could remember them..........and I remember noticing them when I was
about 9, so that goes back to 44 years ago. mmmmmm spring in Nashville,
where the Southern Magnolia's that haven't been touched scent the air, older
neighborhood houses yards have Quince starting to bud, soon the old
fashioned bridal veil Spirea that is planted along the "hell strips" between
the sidewalks and streets will start forming buds..............yes, I grew
up in Inglewood. On Greenfield Avenue which turns into Riverside Drive.
Shelby Park is where I got my clump of Zebra grass....LOL I'm sure Dr.
Shelby had quite a laugh seeing me hidden in the 8 foot tall clump at the
back of the park near the Cumberland River where the railroad tressle is,
digging frantically while my son hunkered down in the truck all freaked out
that I was DOING this............................and no, I don't recommend
EVER doing this. Over the years as a budding gardener, I've done some things
that I am indeed ashamed of. That one clump of yellow violets I dug up from
a clump of eight doesn't come to mind. I fear the whole area now has been
razzed. But other incidents come to mind...........I hope the gardening
fairies have forgiven me by now for my earlier transgressions. Here's to
Spring finally come.........

Yup, the Quince is fixing to bloom in my front yard. There's one
honeysuckle bloom that smells delicious at Sevier Park - it's an early
variety that wakes up the bees.

I admit to bringing home Moth Mullien, Venus's Looking Glass and
Shepards Purse from Ft. Negley, but it would have been mowed down so I
