Native rose
Anybody good with species roses? The white flowered climbing rose is
blooming in Southern Louisiana right now. It is awesome along highway 21 in Covington and also along I-12. I've a close--up of the bloom from a vine on my property in Baton Rouge. Look in the Local Flora file on the site below. Tried to get a good pic of the vine's habit, but the undergrowth is too dense. This rose climbs large trees and cascades with the blossoms facing out. Very dramatic. Blooms annually in April around here. If anyone knows the name of this beauty, I'd be very grateful to learn it. It's tender, and won't grow much beyond zone 7 unless given winter protection. Sunflower MS 7b |

Not a climber, but a great flower, scent and profuse blooming all summer in heat
of Texas is Rosa rugosa. I have one and no matter what I do to it, I get blooms. On Mon, 07 Apr 2003 12:14:01 GMT, "Elizabeth" wrote: Anybody good with species roses? Rosa mutliflora. Generally discouraged because it's invasive, but it makes an excellent tresspasser deterrant. Anyone stepping into a patch will become snagged, with any struggling making it worse. |

This sometimes is called Cherokee rose, because it spread so quickly in the
south that people thought it was native. "Elizabeth" wrote in message .. . Anybody good with species roses? The white flowered climbing rose is blooming in Southern Louisiana right now. The one on my property has not spread in 8 years. In fact I can't even find it except during the couple weeks in spring that it is blooming! It has scrambled up a large tree but it is prettier than most of the vines in the trees :-) Thanks again, elizabeth |
