Yellow patches on lawn

Hello,
My entire lawn has small 2" circles of yellow patches. This is very
visible in that last 2 days as its raining here in Northeast, zone 5
and the surrounding grasses are becoming more greener.

My first doubt was my neighbours dog urinating there, but it not in one
particular place or area, its all over the lawn about 1/4th of an acre.
Now the patches appear to be 2" inches in size. But again I doubt its
dog urnie, unless the dog could urinate that evenly like a sprinkler.
My local garden center sales women said not to do anything just wait
and see and if its dogs urine, the raining will help and washes it
away.

My second doubt is that in the spring begining I had treated the lawn
with pellatized lime with scott rotospreader. I had applied only
240lbs (6x40lbs bags) of lime for the 1/4th acre. Could it be the lime
cooking? as suggested by her (the local lawn & garden center person).
But again nowhere I read in the Internet/Newgroup suggest a lime could
damage the lawn.Could it be the combination of the lime and the unusual
extreme heat (85degree before it start raining for a week) we had befor
it start to rain? Iam hoping that its not a permanent damage to the
lawn.

And so far I have not applied any fertilizer and I have 2 bags of
Milorganite standing by to be applied by the rotospreader, as soon as
the rain stops. But after seeing the lawn condition Iam hesitant to do
anything. Can someone suggest me what action to take? Should I start
appling the Milorganite, or should I apply more lime?

Sorry for the long post.

TIA.
Sam

Start by a google search for "dollar spot" if the description does not
match look for things it is commonly mistaken for.

You might research lawn moths. I had a similar problem a couple of
years ago, and that's what it turned out to be.

Thank you for the information. The symptom is very similar to dollar
spot. Is there any way to confirm it by a test ? Iam going to call the
county extension today to find out about turf/soil testing. Also I
like to find some organic way of treatment. One good sign is I saw new
grass emerging at one larger about 6" dia. dead spot.
TIA
Sam.
