papayas

i am interested in contacting some group member that lives and plants
in israel. reason: have been told that israel does use a strain and or
a process through which their papaya trees start producing at 4-5 feet
tall rather than the 7-8 feet of regular papaya trees in the u.s. is
anybody in the group familiar with this????

Consider the Babaco papaya, Carica pentagona. Grown in Israel,
commercially in greenhouses, it is a smaller specimen than Carica
papaya which grows 10-12' tall. Also known as the Mountain papaya,
babacos are native to Ecuador and prefer slightly cooler
temperatures than their Mexican and Hawaiin cousins.
Significantly, the fruit is five-sided, yellow and quite a bit
tangier than the tropical papaya. Hope this helps,
