Default keeping birds away from homes

Any inexpensive suggestions to prevent small doves and large pigeons
from sleeping and nesting on ledges of buildings? Some thing
that could be brushed or sprayed on perhaps? The keep coming
back after i hose them and several apartments have had mites
because of the nesting.

thanx in advance
