prickly pear propagation

Can a prickly pear be grown from a pad cut from another prickly pear? If
so, is the donor pad cut in half, then planted?

Thanks,

Alan

Yes. I don't know of any reason to cut the pad, but it won't hurt.
Make sure you let the cut surface dry and callus before you plant it.
Even easier, just throw the pad on the ground, roots will come out
whichever part of the pad is lowest.

The easiest way is just break the doner pad off from the main pad and
plant it. Water it for a few days to get the soil around it to compact and
then leave it alone for 10 years or so.
