Gypsy Moth Eggs

We had a pretty bad infestation of Gypsy Moths this summer, but it
wasnt really bad enough to totally defoliate the trees. However, next
year promises to be another story. There are litterally thousands of
egg masses everywhere you look.

So I've been googling about how to get rid of egg masses. Everything I
read suggests two methods: Scrape them off, or spray them with Golden
Natura'l Spray Oil.

Why does everyone keep recommending this brand of oil spray? It's not
available around here, northwest IL, Mchenry Co., It's like none of
the garden stores here have waken up to the fact that Gypsy Moths are
a problem and people may want to do something about them. Will any
other horticultural oil like Ortho Volck work to kill egg masses or is
Golden Natura'l the only product that works?

I used to walk about with a propane torch. Beware it stinks. Just a
touch.

Read some where the gypsy come trough cause havoc weak trees die and
strong ones change the chemical makeup of their leaves.

Bill dealing with oak blight or scorch no real enemy just slow and
insidious loss. :((
