Well, it's the usual sensationalist reporting by the Daily Mail (you do need to take that paper with a fairly large helping of salt), but in essence, yes it is true. These two fungi appeared a few years ago (not clear if they're imports or two genuinely novel diseases, possibly as a result of mutation, but either way, they're nasty). The UK government has announced extra money to combat them (http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/main...tle_funds.htm). They are reportable diseases (which means they should be reported to the Ministry for Agriculture, Food and Fisheries), but of course, most ordinary people probably wouldn't spot them.
