Default Dogwoods Looks Ugly This Year

I have two well established dogwoods in my yard that look really ugly
this year. More than half of the buds on the trees did open, and
those that did are missing 1-3 of their petals.

Looking around the neighborhood I see that nearly all the dogwoods
look that way. Except one, it is fine on the north half and looks
like mine on the south side.

I've casually noticed the exact opposite down here in Virginia.
The pink ones seem particularly full and robust.

Here in SE Pa, anthracnose is destroying the native dogwood population.
I have sprayed as many trees on my property as I can, but the ones
further out are in definite decline.

The Dogwoods, in fact all of the flowering shrubs in SW PA are having one
fabulous year!
