Digging up Pachysandra
 

I have huge areas of pachysandra around my house that needs to be dug
up so I can regrade around the property. What is the best way to dig
up the plants, and then replant them after grading around the house?

Digging up Pachysandra
 

Collect some empty "flats", the perforated plastic trays that packs of
seedlings come in at the nursery. Line the bottoms and sides with several
layers of newspapers. Dig up the pachysandra as best you can-- it won't
come up in neat bits, and don't be afraid to clip where necessary to get it
into manageable chunks. Pack the plants into the flats, and scatter peat
moss or bark mulch around the roots. Water them well, let them drain, and
set them aside in a sheltered, shady spot.

They will keep for weeks, if necessary, this way, as long as you remember to
keep them moist. When you replant, mulch well to hold the plants in place
until they re-establish themselves.
