Ashes to ashes

Greetings,

I'm wondering whether fireplace ashes, mainly cherry wood, might be
beneficial to mix with flower bedding soil. Or, might it be too acidic
or base?

Comments would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Marty

Ashes are basic. I throw mine on high acid parts of lawn where you might
normally lime.

Definitely basic. Pack a large clay flowerpot with ashes. Pour a
bucket of boiling water over top. Collect the outflow, pour through
again. Keep repeating. Test pH with your bare hand.
