Yellow leaves on hibiscus--should I worry?

Hi!

Our hibiscus is planted on a slope in a really sunny area of the yard.
It's been doing fine, despite the almost daily rain--it's been
unusually wet in the S.F. Bay Area, and the water running off from the
neighbor's yard in back. The weather got really hot and dry just
recently, and more and more of the leaves have turned bright canary
yellow. I'm trying to figure out if the hibiscus is dying from lack
of or too much water. Any insight will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

My deciduous rose of sharon (Hibiscus syriacus) grows its leaves back
mid-spring & for a while they are very close to yellow, then slowly
harden to green. Don't know about your variety, but new leaves growing
back yellow isn't the same as green leaves turning yellow. If it was nice
& green already this year & is suddenly turning yellow, then you've
probably made a very good guess the excess water isn't making it happy,
but I can't claim to know.

"Of what are you afraid, my child?" inquired the kindly teacher.
"Oh, sir! The flowers, they are wild," replied the timid creature.

If a tropical hibiscus, yellow leaves are common if there are too many
drastic changes. See
