Default Wood chips, piled high

Is there a danger in piling wood chips higher than 3", especially adjacent to
wooden fences?

Do the chips attract termites or something?

It makes no difference whether you pile them three inches, three
hundreths of an inch, or three feet. They still attract termites. Why
do you think pest control companies use wood chips for termite bait?
