dogwood pendula
Hello. I have fallen "in love" with a cornus pendula. I live on Long
Island, NY and have lost a number on dogwoods due to anthracnose. The chap at the nursery said that this disease was under control. Is that the truth? I have heavily wooded property and have lost at least 10 indigenous trees in the last 10 years. I really would love this tree. Is it a mistake? Thanks, Barbara |

Barbara,
There is no plant called Cornus pendula. You are probably talking about Cornus florida 'pendula' but, as mentioned below, there are a couple of Cornus varieties that may be labeled as "pendula". Anthracnose in Cornus florida is not "under control". It is quite prevalent here in Central NJ, the same climate zone and climate as yours. As I mentioned above, there are several Cornus varieties marketed under the name "pendula". Cornus florida 'pendula' will be as susceptible to Anthracnose as any other C. florida. However, there are several pendulous varieties of Cornus kousa and all are quite resistant to Anthracnose. Find out which plant your guy is selling. --beeky Barbara wrote: Hello.
