earth-friendly algae killer? - using milk in garden

It was offered as a tip for someone having trouble with fungal growth in her garden, becuase of eccessively wet weather. They had diluted it very heavily. I believe it was like 1 tablespoon per quart of water. I tried using milk on my tomatoes (on what I inexpertly guess was verticulium or fusarium). I think the advice was rinse the empty carton with water and use the rinse water. That seemed to clear the problem up (brown or yellowing spotting of leaves, don't quite remember). [I'm fairly certain I found the information on google, if you are interested in looking for it.] Make sure you dilute the milk very well (unlike vinegar hehe). There was one scraggly tomato plant (mountain something cultivar) that I figured I'd give the whole hog treatment, so I dumped some undiluted whole milk (with soggy cereal to boot) on it. The next day it was covered with ants and/or slug slime. -- Salty |
