I'm in California. There are more than 300 species of Eucalyptus - which
one(s) are you interested in?

We grow several varieties here in zone7/8 in the southern sand hills region
of SC near Augusta GA. We have several specimens now that are about 70-80'
tall. Only one has begun to really crown. I'd have to check on which
varieties they are. We've grown several other varieties without success. The
original plant grows rather slowly and doesn't look too good. After a couple
of years, a strong basal shoot appears and grows like a weed to eventually
replace the original plant. Ours can't be more than 15-18 years old, 1 ft+
diameter. Good luck.

There are 700-800 species of Eucalyptus that live in many different
climates and conditions, mostly in Australia. There are species that
like swamps, deserts, snow country and sub tropics, and all in between.
They vary from trees that will grow well over 70m (200ft) to stunted
dwarfs less than 1m (3ft). They can be used as wind breaks and shade
trees, firewood and construction timber, and many are also quite
ornamental.

The trick is to get a type that suits your climate, soil and needs. I
have several books on this, if you describe your situation and needs I
may be able to make some suggestions. There are some specialist
nurseries in the USA that supply them and you may get Australian growers
who will supply seeds by mail order, a google will turn up some with web
sites.

Yes I have 4 on our allotment. Purchased from www.eucalyptus.co.uk Yes
its a UK site but still a good source of information for the ones that
will grow here and for maintainance.. My species were chosen for speed
of growth (slower!) and coppicing suitability. They have been coppiced
for the 1st time this year, in about april and are now regrowing well.
In fact I need to select a shoot to form the new stem and trim out all
the others soon.

I'm not in a US zone as such but inb London UK which is one of the
warmer places, here;-)
