How do I promote tree fungus?
I want good tree fungus...... Either way, I have a kinda big tree stump in my front yard that I would love to see with some shelf fungus and other kinds of pretty and usefull fungus on it. Any tips or pointers? =will= |
How do I promote tree fungus?
There are several companies that sell mushroom plugs (dowels or compressed
sawdust innoculated with mushroom spawn) for growing shiitake, oyster, and other types of mushrooms. You drill holes in the stump (or log) and pound in the plugs. A recent issue of PPP (People, Plants, Places, New England edition) had an article. Do a web search for mushroom spawn or mushroom plugs. One caveat: any existing fungi will inhibit the growth of your mushrooms. But supposedly, these things will bear for years if they get started without competition.
