What, exactly, is this tree/bush?

I bought an interesting plant at the local farmers market last
weekend. The seller called it a Patio Plant and a neighbor called it
a Patio Peach.

It has long slender leaves that fold slightly down the center vein,
and are wavy along the edges. They sprout a dark red and are folded
completely in half. As they mature, they open and become a dark
green. The new leaves actually feel like they are dried out, and get
a little softer feeling as time goes on.

They have 1 - 3 trunks, with very rough bark that is kind of bumpy
(think very coarse sand paper). I am told they will only get 3 -4
feet tall and wide and are considered a very small tree.

I gather they set fruit along the stem that looks kinda like a peach,
but is inedible.

Anyone know what this is and how I should look after it?
