Default Ryobi Trimmer w/ Wheels Off?

I have a Ryobi Model 650R gas trimmer with those large wheels. The
wheels are virtually useless on steep hillsides because they get in
the way of your trying to balance yourself to keep from falling off. I
wonder if anyone has tried to remove the trimmer from its frame and
just use it like a regular trimmer. The throttle cable will have to be
re-routed because it is currently attached to the frame. The other
possible solution would be to just take the wheels off but I would
still have to tangle with the frame. In hindsight, I regretted making
this purchase because the wheels cause the trimmer head to bump up and
down like a whale. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks!
