Climbing Vine Identity

Last fall when I arrived here in Florida a neighbor had a huge vine growing
over her stoop and front entrance. She didn't know what it was and pulled
it out. It had obviously grown there over the summer.

It had some baseball sized fruits, brown with sort of spots. I got one to
take north with me but am wondering if it could be any relation to kudzu. I
would hate to introduce a pest up there but it grew so fast I could use it
if it is controllable.

What the freak are you babbling about?

Kudzu is a legume and legumes have distinctive pod fruit as you would expect
for a bean and not baseball shaped fruit.

Maybe you friend had a Pete Rose vine? ;-) Narf!

Sounds to me like an air potato. And they can take over just like kudzu.

Oh my, but you are polite and such a wonderful way about you.

May your house be safe from tigers in spite of all.

Or passion flower. The "Maypop" fruit is about that size. Depending on how
far north you are taking it, there is a good chance that whatever it is will
freeze and die anyway, and never have time to spread.
