Hello,

My Sears brand lawn mower doesn't want to start anymore. I used it
only for 4 seasons and have always changed the Oil, Spark Plug,
air-filter, blade, etc. regularly! Instead of spending money to fix
it, I was thinking of buying a Cordless Lawn Mower. Since I have about
5000 Sq. Ft of lawn to mow and I don't usually let it grow too tall, I
think a Cordless Electric Lawn Mower might work for me and I would not
have to do all the maintenance a typical gas mower requires and
wouldn't have to bear all the noise and starting problems. If anybody
has experience with cordless lawn mowers please reply.

I have searched the web and various manufacturer's web sites and I
think the only company who makes such lawn mowers any more is Black &
Decker! And, I have checked a few local stores (like Home Depot,
Menards, Ace Hardware, etc.) and no one seems to carry cordless lawn
mowers!! If possible I want to buy from a local store and not from web
sites like Amazon, etc.

Any feedback is welcome.

My Black and Decker works great for me, I can't see going back to gas.

I got it from HD, never know what they will be selling from day to
day.

We bought our rechargeable mower at Home Depot, it's a Black and Decker and we
love it. I am not sure if it would hold a charge long enough to cut 5000 feet,
but we do our lawn twice before we need a recharge. I'd say we have about 2500
square feet...probably much less. I never measured.

I have half an acre with LOTS of shrubs and trees to mow around and
crappy weed grass. I'm happy with my cordless electric even though it
takes me 2 or 3 charges to do the entire lawn. I need recharging just
about the same time the mower does. I did need to purchase and have
installed a new battery the 3rd year.

I have seen ads and literature for something called a neuton that is
supposed to be lighter weight. I can't lift the B&D into the trunk of my
car but can put two planks from ground to trunk and roll it in and out.
Still, that's sort of a hassle.

I am currently using a gas-powered lawn mower. I don't think this is
too much a trouble in maintaining it. I probably spent much more time
sharpening the blade than anything else; but we still need to
sharpening the blade regardless we use a gas-powered mower or an
electric mower.

I have a 7200 sq.ft. lawn. I used to use a cordless lawn mower from
Black and Decker. It worked fine.

Goods:

- I can mow the entire 7200-sq.ft without stopping to recharge it (I
doubt it can mow more than this size of lawn). That was a new battery;
this might explain the result it had enough juice. I don't know what
would have happened if the battery was getting old.

- It was quiet. I don't remember whether I weared ear-protection or
not (That was three years ago).

Bads:

- It is not self-propelled. That was OK with me because the mowing
area is not big, and workout is good for us. But my wife refuses to
mow the lawn if the lawn mower is not self-propelled. In order to get
her to mow the lawn, I decided to replace it with a gas-powered
self-propelled mower. Well, she never mow the lawn even after we have
got the gas-powered self-propelled mower...

- The height adjustment handle in that lawn mower was broken from the
time I got it. I don't remember the details. The dealer got it back
and gave me the refund because they didn't have part for that model
any more. But this was probably an isolated case.

did you leave gas in your mower over the winter? could be gummed up.
partially filled tanks (due to interaction with air) gum up worse than full
or empty tanks. (full tanks could have potential saftey problems)

There's a stabilizer for gas that's in things that aren't used that
often, keeps them from getting all gummed up. Did not know this until
after my gas trimmer had set a year or more with gas/oil mixed up set
in the tank. It was hard to start anyway. .. Ryobi, not to powerful.
Got a 17" cutting radius straight shaft trimmer from sears, most
powerful electric one I could find there.
