Starting spirea

At my daughter's house there is a "shoebutton" spirea that is blooming. I'd
like to start some of these for my yard. What kind of cuttings do I take? I
don't see any branches without flowers down the ends. The branches are very
thin and brittle. We looked for suckers at the bottom but don't see any I
could take.

Starting spirea

In July / August look for some half-ripe new growths. These can be rooted in
a sandy soiled cold frame. Divisions are possible between October and March.

do these propagate by bending the stem down and making contact with soil? or the tip?

I have never known Spirea to be layered. It is quite likely possible.
Cuttings at about 5" in length are the best however.

Thanks, Brian. I'm going to write it on my calendar because I really want at
least one of these spireas. Last year I looked on line and at nurseries and
couldn't find this particular kind.

I guess spirea like forsythia can be air layered. I like it cause results are
basically 100% and I dont have to fool with watering, rotting off, shading the plant,
etc. it is soooo easy to do. Ingrid
