Correct mixture for window boxes

Could someone tell me the best soil mixture
to fill a dozen window boxes without breaking
the bank, thanks. Rosie

Depends on what you want to grow, how big the plants are in relation to the
window box, whether you'll be watering by hand or via an automatic system,
how reliable you are if you're going to be hand-watering, what the winds
are like in your area, what weight the attachments you are using can tolerate,
etc., etc.

All that said, equal parts good garden soil, screened compost and sharp sand
suit most plants. However, it's heavy when wet.
