Have a plant growing which I thought was coriander (first time trying,
but now I think it is just a weed). Found little larvae living inside the leaves. Are these good guys or bad? Found a lacey-winged thing on the bottom of a leaf but killed it beyond recognition. The larvae... http://photos.yahoo.com/ph/royalfraz...&.dnm=344f.jpg The Weed? Herb? http://photos.yahoo.com/ph/royalfraz...&.dnm=b265.jpg Dill, Parsley, Oregano and a Thunberbia vine in backgrounds. The larvae... http://photos.yahoo.com/ph/royalfraz...d7&.dnm=344f.j pg i think those are miners or similar fly maggot The Weed? Herb? chenopodium sp, unless you seeded it, it's a "weed". i've seen it in disturbed soil in horse paddocks. (very disturbed soil!) there are many sp of chenopodium http://plants.usda.gov/cgi_bin/galle...&txtparm=Cheno podium&wetland=all&origin=all&results=thumbnails&p agenum=1 seedlings http://ag.arizona.edu/crops/images/d...s/index_3.html i tried getting this list of weeds for NE, but the page is down (?) anyway, you can drag names from the list into google's bar such as http://images.google.com/images?q=%2...ff&sa=N&tab=wi http://photos.yahoo.com/ph/royalfraz...d7&.dnm=b265.j pg Dill, Parsley, Oregano and a Thunberbia vine in backgrounds. DiGiTAL ViNYL (no email) Zone 6b/7, Westchester Co, NY, 1 mile off L.I.Sound 2nd year gardener FYI, i'm near SF in CA The plant looks like a dock! Cheryl Doesn't looks like any of the pictures of Dock that I could find. Wild or Curly Dock look more like horseradish to my eyes. This plant has whitish coloration at the stem of new leaves. The leaves are totally flat. It has one main stem with new stem branching from the crothces of lower leaves. The flower heads are beginning to develop at the uppermost stem--which is why I need to know if it is a weed. It is about one foot tall. If you let it go to seed, next year you will have enough lamb quarters to feed the whole family for the summer. |

Whatever bug it was it really liked that one plant. All the surrounding plants were untouched on the entire bakers rack of plants were untouched.
