Fruitless Pear trees

Several years ago the old Paul Revere town of Medford
(7 miles north of Bean Town 8-) started planting fruitless
pear trees in the boarders between sidewalks and roads in
replacemnet of troublesome Norway Maples, etc., and at
sping time they are in their blossoming glory that is just
delightfull.

If your town maintains planting trees similarly, you should
encourge them to do likewise! If they want more info they
should address the Tree Warden in Medford City Hall,
Medford, MA 02155

Ciao, Ack.

Great replacement tree, an ornamental pear tree that has even more
problems than the maple. I wouldnt recommend planting trees that are
prone to breaking in half along a city street.

Toad

I agree with Toad. Soon the town can start replacing the pears when they break in a late spring snow storm and are already heavy with blossoms. Hopefully they don't destroy too many vehicles and any people under them. Here's some interesting sites on ornamental pears.
