not so green patches in my lawn
 

Hi,
I have already posted my question almost three weeks ago in this news
group.
My problem is my lawn. I have put a new lawn last year on 6" topsoil. I
have tried to take good care of my lawn (deep watering, fertilizing,
good mowing). Up to fall last year, my lawn looked fairly good.
After winter (in Alberta, Canada we are getting too much snow), my lawn
has slowly started to utrn green except fey spots where i still cannot
see green grass. These areas are not growing so I don't think it's a
sign of fungus or bugs. As per suggestion i have got from my last
posting, I gave my lawn a good deal of water. But still those not-green
areas do not show sign of recovery. One thnk that I need to mention
here is that I used winter fertilizer quite late in end of Oct. Looks
like I shoudl have done it late Sept. I investigated the crown of my
grass at different places. they all looked solid. It was suggested that
if grass crown is soft, it might be a sign of dead grass. I used spring
fertlizer a month ago. For the areas where the grass is green, I do
have a lush grass. I had talk with my neighbour whose grass is very
healthy and he does have quite bit of experinece in landscaping. he
told me that the grass is fine, and I have to be patient and keep
watering the grass and waiting for warm weather.

Possible fertilizer burn? Could the burned areas be where you made a turn and applied too much? If the roots are brown then I'd say the grass is dead. Go ahead and remove the dead areas, scratch the soil, add 1/4" of compost and reseed if you don't see any new growth in another 2 weeks.
