azalea questions

hello,
zone 5
Azalea housePlants...
1. 1 had had (and is getting again) some sort of deficiency (white /
lime green tiny leaves) which i had been giving mirAcid to than 1 time
per week (it was deficient for 1 year)
how long does one *treat* them if they were deficient for that long a
time
(and possibly the others since they are only in 2/3 peat 1/3
perlite/sand)
2. the "spent" flowers -- how and where to cut the bases off?
3. do they require any other food aside from 30-10-10?
thank you!

There's many factors in determining a plant's recovery. Plants heal
much more slowly than animals. Sometimes it will be a full season to
see changes. Azaleas should be fed after bloom during the growing
season, then left dormant (unfertilized) other times. You can cut off
the dead flowers as soon as they get that way. Be careful and go easy
with the 30-10-10, that's strong for an indoor potted plant. Nothing
is better than some fresh soil for trace nutrients.

they are doing both: growing and flowering... and i should feed them ONLY
mirAcid? or a 20-20-20?
what about epsom salts?

then left dormant (unfertilized) other times.

they are doing their own thing... when i got them they were flowerLess and
currently they are flowering... more buds too...

i'm using the housePlant dose (not the outDoor strength)

the ground's frozen cannot get soil just ice:) but i have an organic mix with
peat, verm., perlite, composted bark and humus (turkey manure) would that be
an idea?
Thanks very much again!
sincerely

azalea questions

Can you give them too much acid. I dont have any of them, but I use azalea
food for my blueberries, and wonder if you arent giving them too much.
Maybe you could take a soil sample from one of your plants to the extension
office or someone with the capability, and have it tested for pH. Good
luck. Dwayne

Definitely. A toxicity to trace elements develops if the ph level drops
below 4.5 which is evidenced when the leaves turn yellow, but the leaf veins
remain green.

thanks a lot, Dwayne
i have the capsules and a pool testing kit and tested them ... i'd given 1
sulfur for mites/root problems and that one had pH 6.8 (pool test) neutral w/
capsules) the others were basic (8) or neutral...

thanks again!
sincerely

thank you very much for the reply...
first only 1 is pH 7 (6.8) (i'd given it some sulfur for different reasons)
also they don't have yellow leaves w/ green veins..
1 has white/limeGreen leaves which are TINY on some branches
but the n, p k in all were the lowest numbers (deficient) (soil capsules) except
1 which i have been feeding more to... (which was debatably moderate)
