prunus serrula seeds

having given up on trying to find a local source for our tibetan
cherry, we're seriously considering purchasing seeds. has anyone had
success doing this? would appreciate any tips and also a good source
for seeds (www.localharvest.org seems to be one of the few that has
'em)

thanks!

It's quite easy to germinate and grow cherry seeds (chill in fridge
over winter, sow in spring, outdoors, protected from mice and
squirrels). However, growing trees from seed you'll have no guarantee
that seedlings will be true to the parent tree; they could be hybrids
fertilised by some other prunus nearby and possibly won't develop the
shiny red serrula bark or the same flowers. The bark quality doesn't
show in very young seedlings so you'd have to grow a considerable number
of seedlings for 5 years at least, then select those which look most
promising.

Can't you find a specialist tree nursery which does mail order ?
