Have a fairly large area(s) that need re-seeding around home (Mass.)

Was going to just roughen up the soil, and hand seed, then water.

But have heard about "Hydro Seeding"
Know nothing about it.

Might anyone offer any opinion regarding it, please ?
e.g.,

-just what is it ?
-is it expensive ?

-worth the cost (as compared to ...) ?

-better than "slice-seeding" ?

what to look for, or ask for, when hiring someone to do it ?
any caveats, or particular things worth knowing about ?

It's high volume.

Works great,after using a rockhound.
any caveats, or particular things worth knowing about ?
