Default Help: Lawn Yellow

I've a grass which is somewhat yellow. I've a Fescue put in summer of 01
(year and half old). I've been watering 10 min. every day in summer and 5
min in winter. have used weed-n-feed fertilizer from Home Depot every
quarter. After the mowing most of the grass blade ends turn white and then
yellow. Also it feels hard to a touch.

What am I doing wrong? I think I need to sahrpen the blade on the mower.
Anything else I might be missing?

Thanks,

AJ

White or tan blade ends that are jagged usually means a dull blade. Powdery
White blade ends could mean too much shade and poor air circulation.

Blade sharpeners are a few bucks at the hardware store as well as blade
balancers. I sharpened and balanced my blade and mower runs and cuts quite
nicely . Some mower repair shops might charge a few bucks to put a nice sharp
edge on the blade. A sharp blade is definatly important in a healthy lawn.

Assuming your in the US (Home Depot)
Watering ten minutes a day in summer!
This is not a good way to water, you will bring the roots up to the surface.
Water heavily once every two weeks. Mornings only..
When the grass doesn't spring back after being walked on is when it needs
watering.
White ends, this is probably a blunt mower blade that is not cutting
cleanly. Also cutting in the evening will help.
Cutting height is one of the most common mistakes.
For a lawn that is used, cut at two and half inches. For a front lawn that
doesn't get much traffic cut it higher, it will stay greener and look good
even during a drought.

In addition to following Jeff's advice, you may also want to try a spray
fertilizer with iron. Iron deficiency can cause most plants to turn yellow.
