Default Garden Vac Question

Are garden vacs any good for sucking up small pieces of broken glass
and other sharp debris - like screwnails?

We have a vandal problem here and I am fed up sweeping. I thought a
gasoline powered garden vac might be the answer.

TIA for any help with this one.
