JD LT160 mower deck problem
Hi, I have a John Deere LT160 with a 42c" deck. Deck has 2 blades. When I
mow, a strip about 1/4 - 1/2" wide is missed in the center of of the lawn. I tried new blades, balanced blades. Cleaned out deck. Called JD dealer, were kinda clueless too. Anyone have any suggestions? It doesn't matter if grass is wet/dry or I go slow/fast ground speed. Thanks, Chad |

The blades should "overlap" slightly such that if they were both facing the same direction, they would crash into each other. To prevent this, one blade is set to face up/down while the other blade is left/right (perp. to each other). Sounds like either you're using the wrong blades, or they're not installed correctly. Has this always happened? -Tim |

JD LT160 mower deck problem
I agree with Tim's diagnosis. Also you might check to see that the two
blades are oriented to one another correctly. If you've got the 42C deck, like me, I believe the end of one blade should be pointing directly at the middle of the other. Maybe if the blades were not oriented right the resulting airflow may be disrupted in a way that keeps that strip of grass from being sliced, but thats just a guess. If I recall correctly the blades are sort of curved where the center hole is, and it is possible to bolt them on upside down. I had to look at my old blades to make sure I put them on right. Also, don't try the generic blades from places like Lowes, etc as they are oftentimes not the right size, even though they may appear close. Did you get your replacement blades from the Deere dealer? I had this problem for a while till I realized my blades were worn out (too short on ends). As soon as the new ones were put in place, this problem disappeared. "Chad Graybill" wrote in message ...
