Default aerator- plug vs. disc

I am about to buy an aerator. Which is better the plug or the disc type? I
assume the plug type is better since they cost more. If so are they worth
the cost difference or do the cutting disc type do just as good a job
aerating?

Any comments would be appreciated.

I vote for Plug Aerators as they deposit soil to the top of the turf and
allow more water to reach the root system of your lawn. You want soil to be
deposited on top of the thatch to promote breakup. The plug holes also IMHO
do a better job of allowing water, seeds and nutrients from fertilizer to
reach the roots easier.

If you pay a lawn service for aeration, they will (or should) be using Plug
Aerators.
