Shoot one or two and leave them lay. Their buddies may get the message.

Take the top half inch of soil off your bulb bed. Cover the area with
1 inch mesh chicken wire. Tack the edges down with yard staples. Cover
the chicken wire back up. Most bulbs will grow through the wire and
the squirrels won't be able to dig down to get them.

I tried a bunch of the chemical deterrents and the old wives tale
cures, even a water shooting scarecrow. The chicken wire approach
worked much better.
