Founded in 2004, Scentsy is a multi-level marketing company that manufactures and distributes wickless scented candles. The company now has over 50,000 consultants operating in the United States, Canada, Guam and Puerto Rico. In 2009 Scentsy won the Rising Star Award from the Direct Selling Organization.

The Products:

Scentsy's main products are scented wax warmers heated by a 25-watt bulb instead of a flame, making it safer than a regular candle. The wax warmers come in many different colors and styles to match just about any taste. Scentsy products also include Plug-In Warmers, Scentsy Bars, Scentsy Bricks, Car Candles and Travel Tins. There are many different scent categories to choose from including: Romance, Tropical, Scentsy Man, Spa, Bakery, Fall and Winter, and Scentsy Café.

The Compensation Plan:

Scentsy is a direct selling company with the usual MLM compensation plan. Independent consultants sell products directly to the consumers and are rewarded with commissions (20-30%) based on personal retail volume (PRV). Leadership bonuses are also paid out to leaders who build teams of consultants. These bonuses are what would constitute residual income. The suggested method of selling the products is through home parties.

Joining Scentsy:

New consultants purchase a starter kit for $99. The kit includes Party Fragrance Testers, demonstration products, and business supplies such as a training DVD, business cards, and brochures. Keeping membership active requires to maintaining a $150 PRV every three months. Members can also subscribe to a replicated website, which is free for the first 3 months, and then $10 a month thereafter.
