Step1
Be careful about the testimonials. Believe it or not, these are not difficult to fabricate and by tying it in with the first rule, you'll eliminate many pitfalls. Think about it, if someone had intentions other than being honest with you why would they go to the trouble of getting testimonials from real people.

Step2
Identify some common scam sites. They often claim they are paid survey sites and ask you to sign up and provide your personal information. They then turn around sell your information. Those are email harvesting sites and often those sites are overly simplified, no company information etc, all they ask is your name and email address, and you won't know what's going on until you register. If you see a site like this, walk away.

Step3
Check paid survey sites at home forums. See the Resource section for forums you can check to see if a survey site really pays. There are plenty of forums and sites that will give you this information for free.

Step4
Find out contact information. You must phone the number, and see if there is a real live person on the other end who seems to know about the opportunity you're inquiring about, then, you have some evidences that this may be a legitimate chance and not one of those online paid survey scams. Please remember what you need is not only the name and number.
