Contorted filbert
It's a shrub-like tree, about five feet tall and as wide. As the name
suggests, it's limbs are contorted and even its leaves are wrinkled. Unfortunately, all the new growth comes up from the roots with straight limbs and smooth leaves. Any idea how to make it grow and remain contorted? |

I understand that Contorted Filbert, also known as Harry Lauder's Walking
Stick is grafted -- the straight suckers coming up from the rootstock should be removed, to keep the plant's energy in the contorted branches. That's what I've been doing, but it's not putting out any contorted growth. I've had it for a number of years. |

Sorry, Richard, I should have been more clear in my original reply.
The rootstock does not produce contorted growth, just straight stems. Like many grafted plants, the rootstock may have entirely different characteristics from what is grafted on to it. To get a better idea, try googling "contorted filbert" as some of the results will explain this better than I can. Anne Lurie NE Raleigh "Richard Evans" wrote in message ...
