I think anybody who plants pines deliberately in a residential area ought to be jailed. It seems I recall reading about some kind of a blight or fungus that
afflicts pine trees. We are concerned that some of our pines have it. They have swollen spots on the trunks and some branches, a kind of rust discoloration in spots. A couple have died. Anyone know what this is, and is there something one can do to keep it from spreading? Thanks |

Sounds like Fusiform Rust. Not sure anything can be done about it,
aside from cutting down the infected trees and trying to keep existing trees healthy. Pine trees are great in certain locations. Native plants. They were here before you were. more info: http://www.na.fs.fed.us/spfo/pubs/fi.../fidl-fusi.htm |

Supposedly much of North Carolina was hardwood forest and longleaf pine before it was almost completely deforested for agricultural purposes by the colonists. The reforestation of North Carolina started in the 20th century with a big boost from the great depression and the end of the family farm. -- Chris Dukes tajwerk this job isnt bad though. Today we had free breakfast and B0rg implants. |

I remember reading that much of NC was covered with huge poplar trees before it got logged. As per Chris' post, the Cradle of Forestry was started by the Vanderbilts (of Biltmore House) in what is now the Pisgah National Forest. http://www.cradleofforestry.com/crad...ry/history.asp -- Steve Holzworth* ** ** ** *** ** ** *"Do not attribute to poor spelling * * ** * ** ** ** *That which is actually poor typing..."
