tree nursery?
The guys who cut down many damaged/ dead trees at my place today also took
out my favorite sourwood instead of only removing the one damaged limb that was maarked for removal. It leaves a HUGE gap physically, I will miss it. I am considering redbud, pink and white dogwoods, or another sourwood or two. Where can I buy decent-sized trees this time of year? Can you recommend any other flowering understory type trees or shrubs to put in the big bare spot? I love pink and purple and white and hate yellow. The trees or shrubs will have morning sun, but be in shade from noon onward. Thanks for feedback! laurie (Mother Mastiff) |

tree nursery?
Laurie -
Try Architectural Trees, http://www.archtrees.com/index.html They have an wonderful selection of unusual trees; a quick search of the inventory list shows sourwood and dogwoods. The owner will also give you great advice. If you go to the nursery take some pictures of the problem area along with you. "laurie (Mother Mastiff)" wrote in message .. . For dogwoods, take a look at the Kousa dogwood...not very susceptible
to the Anthracnose that's killing the other dogwoods. |

Symptoms of Anthracnose in Dogwoods? Was Tree nursery?
What are the symptoms of anthracnose in dogwoods?
I just bought 4 largish dogwoods, a Celestial and several Stellar Pinks at Home Depot on Walnut St in Cary, and they all have yellow striping on the leaves, and the Celestial also has a bit of red. It looked to me like iron deficiency, so I bought some Ironite, but when I asked for help to discuss the appearance of the leaves, the head of the nursery dept told me these new hybrids are more resistant than other varieties to diseases, and their leaves are ~supposed~ to be striped like this. He seemed fairly knowledgeable, so I bought the trees (and Ironite). The mention of a disease affecting dogwoods in the area has me worried. How does Anthracnose present in dogwood trees, and is is treatable or curable? Should I have bought a manure fork for the salesman's spiel instead of buying the trees? That purchase is a lot of money to me. I can probably find the receipt.... Do I need to worry? Since I brought them home, if they are diseased, will they not infect my other dogwoods? laurie (Mother Mastiff) "fernvalley" wrote in message oups.com...
