Green House

We are about 75 miles South East of the Triangle after living in
Apex / Cary for 15 years. We have purchased a green house and I am
wondering if anyone has any tips as to what and how to have a winter
garden in it. I am hoping for Herbs and mostle to get my spring
plantings off to a good start.
Thanks in advance for any information you can share.

MJ-

Contact your local county extension agent for advice. Many offices have
a horticulture specialist and/or a master gardener volunteer staff to
help people like you succeed at growing stuff. People grow tomatoes and
peppers in Ontario commercially in the winter in greenhouses and so you
should have no problem growing lots of goodies.

My extension guy knows me by name. Poor guy has spent the "real"
growing season answering questions for me and I have gardened all my
life!! Here in Pig country there aren't a lot of green houses, I have
seen one, so he didn't have a lot of information. I guess I will just
do what I usually do and adjust as things do or don't happen.
Thanks for the input.

Check with local community college to see if they offer horticulture
programs. If so, check with the instructors for info.

Given your location, you're probably in Zone 8 so making sure
greenhouse doesn't overheat on those warm, sunny winter days is one
thing to consider. Also, think about heat source should power go out
with an ice storm (which can happen just about anywhere in NC, even
pig country.)

Two items to deal with for greenhouse growing are disease/pest
management and air circulation/proper ventilation.

Good luck.
