Need help identifying weird lavender-like plant

Hi all,

I've just been given a plant that I was told was a lavender variety. But
I've grown lavender before, and it doesn't look like any I know. And it
smells a little like rosemary, but only faintly. Strangest of all, it has
these weird purple flowers on the tops of the branches that look like
miniature purple pineapples.Anyone know what it is?

If no one comes up with an ID, I'll post a photo. But I know someone will
get it! You guys are great.

E.

Well, I found a photo of it, but if anyone knows the variety name and other
info, I am still interested. Thanks!

I know I had seen that variety when working at Fairview Garden Center, but I
couldn't remember the name. I just called and spoke with "Ann". She's from
So. Africa and has the British accent. She used to own her own greenhouse
business and is very knowledgeable.

She said the variety that has small purple "pineapples" on top is Spanish
Lavender. She also said that it does very well in our area. When planting,
make sure the crown of the plant stays above the soil line. All Lavenders
and Rosemary do best in full sun and MUST have good drainage to prosper. If
you plant them directly into our clay, they will die shortly after. You
probably know this since you've already grown some lavender.

Penny and all,

Thanks for the reponses! I will amend the spot to improve the drainage.
Thanks for the reminder. I hope I can keep it going.
