Default Mountain Laurel

Has anyone in the triangle had good experience growing
mountain laurels from potted plants and/or seeds?

I put two in last year under some trees in the side yard. They bloomed
well the first year, then lost some leaves, and seem to be OK now. But
they're not growing very fast. Seem to just be holding their own.
