Default Stem borers got my pumpkin

After eating my squash, and not reappearing for a long time, they
finally came back and bit my pumpkin vine But unlike squash, they
chose to bite into the pumpkin far away from near the root. Its almost
one yard from the root.

As suggested on one of the websites, from next year I won't plant the
vines with hollow stems.
